Let's continue the series of articles about the fate of the famous cruise companies' former ships.
Last time we talked about Carnival.
Today we will begin the series of articles about the former ships of
. Surprisingly the company had 18 ships that left its fleet! Probably only Norwegian Cruise Line or Cunard can compete with such number. Considering this number of ships, we will divide this article into three different parts.
Today we'll talk about the very first Princess ships.
Princess Patricia (built in 1949) was the first ship of the company. The ship was quite small, 6000 tons.
Before becoming the Princess ship, the liner sailed under the flags of the Canadian Pacific Railway. In 1965, the ship became the first flagship of Princess Cruises.
Since 1978, the ship was not used. In 1986, the ship served as a floating hotel in Vancouver. In 1995, the ship was scrapped in Taiwan.
An interesting fact: Princess Patricia took part in the "Friday the 13th: Jason Takes Manhattan" movie filming.
The ship sailed under the Princess flags from 1967 to 1973.
Princess Italia cruised along the Pacific Coast. Mexico and Alaska from Los Angeles were the most popular destinations.
After this, the liner belonged to Costa Cruises, Ocean Cruise Line, Sunshine Cruise Line, Thomson Holidays, and Louis Cruise Lines.
In 2012, the ship was scrapped.
In 1988, the ship was sold to Noel Shipping Ltd./Premier Cruises. The liner cruised around the Caribbean under the new name of Starship Majestic.
Since 1995, the ship was called Southern Cross and sailed under the flags of CTC Lines.
From 1997 to 2004, the liner belonged to Festival Cruises. Later the ship sailed under the flags of the following companies: Cruise Elysia, Club Cruise, Runfeng Ocean Deluxe Cruises, Ocean Dream Cruise (Thailand) Co. Ltd.
Under the name of Ocean Dream, the liner was abandoned by her last owners. The ship sank in the port of Laem Chebang in Thailand on February 27, 2016.
Pacific Princess was the sixth ship of the company.
In 1978, the liner was bought by Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company. After the reconstruction, she was sent to Princess Cruises under the name of Sea Cruises in 1979.
At the same time, the ship was named Oceanic II.
In June 2008, the liner was transferred to Lord Nelson Seereisen, where she was given the name of Mona Lisa.
In May 2008, the ship ran aground in the Irben Strait after leaving Riga.
In the fall of 2008, the ship was transferred to Peace Boat.
In 2010, the ship served as the hotel for volunteers during the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Vancouver.
In 2010, it became known that the liner did not fit the modern standards of safety, so the ship was removed from the fleet.
From 2010 to 2015, the ship belonged to the DMSE-Oman company. The liner was in Oman and served as the floating hotel complex called Veronica.
In 2015, the liner was sold for scrapping.
It was the first part of the story about the former ships of Princess Cruises.
