Royal Caribbean "Family"

6 minutes read • April 20th, 2017
The Royal Caribbean Cruises market share is more than 25%. The company firmly holds its positions among the world's leaders. The company's modernizations and development happen constantly.
We all know the

Royal Caribbean International company

.
The company's mega-liners cracked all the possible records in the cruise world! If there were cruise industry's Guinness records and Nobel Laureates, RCI would be worthily represented on the list.

However, RCI accounts for only 17% of the cruise market. Let's learn more about this fact and the remaining 8% and other companies belonging to Royal Caribbean Cruises.

We won't write about the company's history. We'll have a separate article about this.
The only one remark we'd like to mention is that from 1968 to 1997 the company was called Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. Then, after the purchase of Celebrity Cruises, a new name appeared: Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
Royal Caribbean International is the main company of the huge "cruise family".

The company's fleet now consists of 24 ships, and 6 more ships will join it in the years to come. 7 of the 10 world's largest ships belong to Royal Caribbean International: Harmony of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas, and Liberty of the Seas Seas.

As we've already said, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd appeared thanks to

Celebrity Cruises

.
For today, Celebrity Cruises has slightly more than 4% of the cruise market.

We've already told you about the history of this company.
Now the company's fleet consists of 9 large cruise liners and a small expeditionary class ship.
Soon, the fleet will include two more expedition ships.
And in a few years, the world will see new mega-liners of the Celebrity Edge class.

The next subsidiary is Azamara Club Cruises. We've already talked a little about her in the article about the history of Celebrity Cruises.
To date, the company's share is 0.2%.
The company currently has two relatively small cruise liners. The company presents itself as luxury class.

Do you think these are all Royal Caribbean companies? No ;)

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. owns 49% of Pullmantur Cruises.
It immediately became clear how Sovereign of the Seas and Monarch of the Seas became the main ships of Pullmantur.

Pullmantur was founded in the late 1990s, and in 2006, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd bought the company. In 2016, Royal Caribbean sold 51% of Pullmantur to the Spanish company called Springwater Capital.
Now the company has 2 ships and a subsidiary called CDF Croisières de France (in fact, it is the subsidiary of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.). CDF Croisières de France will cease to exist this year (2017), and its two cruise ships, Horizon and Zenith (former ships of Celebrity Cruises), will join the Pullmantur fleet.

By the way, Pullmantur & CDF account for more than 2% of the cruise market!

Also, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has a joint company with the famous German travel company, TUI Group.
The company is called TUI Cruises, and Royal Caribbean owns 50% of it.
The company's cruise market share is almost 1.5%.
The company currently has 5 ships: 2 former Celebrity liners and 3 ships built specifically for TUI Cruises.

In the next 3 years, 3 more ships will join the company's fleet.

We thought these were all the subsidiaries of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
We were wrong...
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. partly owns Wamos Air (19%). Wamos Air, former Pullmantur Air, is a Spanish airline that mainly serves charter flights, as well as flights from Spain to the Caribbean islands and Central America.

Do you think that's all? :-)
Cruise1st also belongs to Royal Caribbean Cruises.
Cruise1st is a British travel agent/website founded in 2000.
In November 2008, the company completely came under the control of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.

Royal Caribbean has such a big and diversified family.
By the way, in total Royal Caribbean Cruises employs more than 66,000 people!
