Last week we already talked about P&O Iona, the newest member of the P&O Cruises fleet (you can check the story via this link). This new cruise ship was originally expected to enter service in May 2020 but the momentous event was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. No matter what, P&O Iona is almost ready for delivery, and we invite all cruise lovers to learn about her construction history.

P&O Iona cruise ship is an Excellence-class vessel. She has a tonnage of 184,000 GT and a capacity of 5,200 guests and 1,800 crew members. She will become the new P&O Cruises’ flagship and the largest cruise liner ever built for the cruise company and for the UK market. Besides, our heroine will be the first LNG-powered cruise ship in the British market.
P&O Iona has 18 decks. She will accommodate her guests in 2,610 cabins. The ship has more than 15 dining venues, four swimming pools, 16 whirlpools, numerous entertainment spaces, and more. You can check the P&O Iona deck plan via this link.
Now let’s move on to the story of our heroine’s construction and check several exciting pictures from the shipyard.
P&O Iona construction started on April 25, 2020, when P&O Cruises and Meyer Werft celebrated the ship’s steel-cutting ceremony in Papenburg, Germany.
An incredible process began.
