. It was once a rich and important royal city, but now it is the third richest city in Norway. The symbol of the city is the great 

Gothic cathedral

of Northern Europe, built in 1070, on the grave of St. Olav (who brought Christianity to the Norwegian land, and died in a battle north of 

Trondheim

in 1030). The cathedral, of course, bears his name, as well as many other wonderful places in Norway.
